What LRH says about fundraising

October 7, 2009

This quote was posted in the comments section of Geir Isene’s blog, but it deserves wider distribution. It’s from HCO PL 24 February 1964, “Urgent, Org Programming”:

“If the Org slumps: Don’t engage in ‘fund raising’ or ‘selling postcards’ or borrowing money. Just make more income with Scientology. It’s a sign of very poor management to seek extraordinary solutions for finance outside Scientology. It has always failed. For Orgs as for pcs ‘Solve it With Scientology.’ Every time I myself have sought to solve finance or personnel in other ways than Scientology I have lost out. So I can tell you from experience that Org solvency lies in More Scientology, not patented combs or fund raising Barbecues.”   L. Ron Hubbard

To be clear, “make more income with Scientology” means selling training and processing. That’s what Orgs are supposed to be doing. That is what Management is supposed to be pushing. Mainline Bridge services – not fundraising.

And what does he think of those who engage in fundraising rather than just selling Scientology services? He said it is a “sign of very poor management.”

I’ll repeat, “a sign of very poor management.”

    Yes “very poor management”, indeed!

In fact virtually non-existent management! Probably worse than that! More like Treasonous or Confused “management”!

I just got a report that CLO WUS has started up an “Ethics Org” that is being used as an enforcement arm of the IAS regges. They apparently dress in black uniforms and do arm twisting to wring more donations out of the WUS public. Anybody out there with more data on this?

      Hi Joe,

      Heard rumors of this too.

I’ll keep an eye open for any further intel as the scene develops.

This gestapo action at CLO WUS that is described here is going to alienate even more Scientologists..especially OTs who will have the biggest effect on the church. There is only so much invalidation an OT can take and only so much force, lack of acknowledgment of one’s self-determinism not to mention financial ruin before they all defect. What a waste. Just today I heard from yet another person on OTVll who is just getting out with their spouse. Stopped auditing and is disgusted with all the regging and unnecessary sec checks etc. Spent over $250,000 to try and get thru Vll, had great wins, but has had it with the politics of the church. The clock is definitely ticking.

Honestly, you have to be rich to do this religion. No ifs ands about it. Can’t fathom spending that kind of money. Then when you do – like Mary Jo Katz, OT8, lot of good that did her, she is now declared SP. What a great product Cof$!!!! You’re not getting my $$$$$.

Punch this LRH policy on the fallacy of ‘fund raising’ hard. This LRH statement alone can make it clearer to all concerned just exactly how squirrel DM’s management is. Fund raising is diametrically opposed by L. Ron Hubbard’s clear and unequivocal policy for the Scientology.

I agree. The first point put forward to an OT not in the know should have the most resonance with them while at the same time showing them what LRH has to say on it. I’m sure OT’s have issues with the new money system in place now.

They know instinctively that there’s something amiss and only need policy to back up their suspicion. Worst case scenario is they disagree, but stop giving to IAS and start paying for people’s bridge.
